: Kyanite
Specimen of the aluminosilicate series of nesosilicates known as kyanite, with its elongated columnar crystals embedded in a staurolite matrix. Kyanite typically occurs in association with other silicate minerals such as andalusite, micas, sillimanite, quartz, and staurolite. This sample is from the United States - photo is by the US Geological Survey.

Within the United States, kyanite is found in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, North Carolina, and Washington State.
