: Kyanite

Specimen of the aluminosilicate series of nesosilicates known as kyanite, with its elongated columnar crystals embedded in a staurolite matrix. Kyanite typically occurs in association with other silicate minerals such as andalusite, micas, sillimanite, quartz, and staurolite. Within the United States, kyanite is found in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, North Carolina, and Washington State.
