| Smithsonian's American Topaz



The "American Topaz" is the world's largest cut topaz, and one of the largest faceted gems of any kind in the world. This gigantic spherical-cut Topaz has 172-faces and a total weight of 22,892.50 carats, or 5,785 kg.



The rough Topaz was found at the Capão Imperial Topaz Mine in Ouro Prêto, Brazil. The stone was cut in Idar-Oberstein, Germany over a period of two years, and it now resides at the Smithsonian Institution's American Museum of Natural History in Washington DC.
