Andhra Pradesh, India: Narsipatnam Gem Mines

The Narsipatnam Mines are located approximately 200 kilometers west of the city of Vishakhapatnam, in the 'Vizag' region of Andhra Pradesh, India. Most of the mining in Narsipatnam is conducted by freelance miners who dig illegally during the monsoon season while the ground is soft.

The mines at Narsipatnam are known for the excellent and change and high clarity of their alexandrite. The Narsipatnam and Vishakhapatnam mining regions also produce greenish-yellow cat's eye chrysoberyl known as Vyduryam.
