Murfreesboro Arkansas: Crater of Diamonds
Arkansas' Crater of Diamonds is an 888 acre State Park (Kimberley) located off route 27, south of Murfreesboro, in the central-western part of the state. 'Crater of Diamonds' is located over a 95 million year old lamproite pipe. After a mini diamond-rush to the area in the early 1900s, the lamproite body failed to produce a sufficient amount of diamonds to make it commercially viable. The Crater of Diamonds park is now open to the public.
