South Africa Diamond Mines: Koffiefontein Diamond Mine
South Africa's Koffiefontein Diamond Mine is located 60 miles to the northwest of Kimberly, in the Orange River colony near Lime Acres and Koopmansfontein. Mining at Koffiefontein began in 1870, and the mine was known for its 'first water' high clarity. After several closings and re-openings, the mine was finally closed by De Beers in 2006. Petra Diamonds is considering operations at Koffiefontein.
