French Polynesia: Taha'a Black Pearl Farms

The island of Tahaa in the French Polynesia island chain is one of the primary locations for the Tahitian pearl industry. Tahaa is famous for its Tahitian black pearl farms and pearl cultivation.

Tahaa, also known as the "Vanilla Island," is also known for its many Vanilla plantations, growing 80% of all the Vanilla in French Polynesia. The vanilla plant is a member of the Orchid family, known on Tahaa as "Vanira."
