Tanzania: Merelani Hills (Mererani) Tanzanite Mines

Tanzania's Merelani Hills (aka Mererani) west of Mt. Kilimanjaro, in the Umba Valley of the lower Arusha Region (Simanjiro district), is the primary location of tanzanite mining. The satellite image is of Tanzanite-One's C-Block Mine with the surrounding A-block, B-Block, and D-Block mines.

This region of the Merelani Hills is also known as a source for Tsavorite, which is mined at the Lemshuko mine, near Komolo.
