Sources

Pages draw on standard gemology and mineralogy references and on the published grading systems of gemological laboratories. Physical properties such as hardness, refractive index and specific gravity are given as accepted ranges.

Accuracy

Pages avoid claims that go out of date quickly, such as current prices or the present output of a mine. Where a fact depends on a date, the page gives the date. Folklore and symbolism are described as beliefs, and the site makes no health or healing claims for any stone.

Independence

The site does not sell gemstones or jewelry and does not accept payment for coverage or rankings.

Corrections

Readers who spot an error can report it through the contact page. Confirmed errors are fixed and the page's review date is updated.
